Sudden changes can be really tough to deal with. Especially, if you’re one of those people who really feels things deeply. Like one of the many HSP women in this world. No matter if it’s a sudden life-altering event or a natural disaster, you can feel a sense of grief and loss. You’re in new territory without a map. Which is not ideal for an HSP, let me tell you. But, there are some things you can do to navigate these emotions.
Talk to Other HSP Women in Florida Who Will Get It
When you’re feeling lost, it can be helpful to talk to someone who understands what you’re going through. It can be a fellow HSP woman, or an HSP therapist, like me. A fellow HSP woman will get it. She’ll understand what you’re dealing with on a deep level. And she can offer tips on how to navigate these emotions. Whereas, an HSP therapist can also be helpful because they have professional training. They have experience in helping people deal with sudden changes and emotions. They can help you process your feelings and develop a plan to cope with the changes
For example, I have friends who are not HSPs. And, when I try to explain my need for downtime or how I process information to them, they just don’t get it. It’s not their fault, but it doesn’t make me feel any better. So, talking to someone who understands can be a relief. This doesn’t mean you can’t talk to your non-HSP friends. But, it’s important to have someone in your life who gets it.
Write It Out
If you’re not wanting to talk to someone, perhaps let your feelings out on paper. Write a letter to yourself or the person/thing you are grieving. For example, if you are grieving the loss of a pet, you could write a letter to your animal saying everything you want to say. This can help release those bottled-up emotions in a healthy way. Plus, you can re-read the letter when you need a reminder of how much your pet meant to you. It can also be a letter about your current situation. Letting all your worries and fears out on paper can help you make a plan to move forward.
Get in Touch With Nature
This may be difficult if you’re an HSP woman who just went through a natural disaster. You may feel like nature in a way betrayed you. But, nature has a way of grounding us and helping us feel more connected. This doesn’t have to be anything extreme like standing out in the heat for hours or going for a long hike. It can be as simple as opening your window and letting in some fresh air, or looking at pictures of nature that make you happy. It can also be sitting on your porch reading a book or listening to the birds.
Disconnect From Technology
For anyone, not just HSP women, this one may be difficult. Technology is everywhere and it can be hard to disconnect. But, if you’re feeling lost and need to find your way back to yourself, it may be helpful to disconnect. As HSP women, this extra stimulation can be overwhelming. It can also be a way to numb your feelings. If you need to, set some boundaries with technology. Maybe only check your phone if you’re expecting an important call or only be on social media for a set amount of time each day. It will also help you avoid negative emotions from others that can further add to your sense of loss.
Sudden change is hard for HSP women. We can feel lost and alone when everything around us changes. Especially when they are life-altering changes or natural disasters. But, with the proper support, we can navigate these tough emotions and find our way back to ourselves.
